The Role
The mission of the Experiments team is to enable researchers at DeepMind to easily and responsibly test out ideas at scale. A notable example of the tools and systems we've built is Launchpad - an open source library that enables users to intuitively define large distributed systems, typically used for training advanced distributed agents.
In this role, your responsibilities will be:
Create momentum around new initiatives and set the technical direction for solving hard technical problems on:
Infrastructure that enables DeepMind to run large scale experiments on GCP alongside Borg.
Advancements to DeepMind experiment scheduling to leverage opportunistic access to compute.
Optimisations that lead to faster launch and execution of experiments in Borg and GCP.
Efficiency improvements in the execution of DeepMind experiments.
Lead with strategic impact and coach/mentor SWEs in our team.
Address both engineering and organisational challenges:
Work with other DeepMind teams to deliver on the next generation of our research tools and infrastructure.
Work with Google teams to help shape the overall direction of Google infrastructure for research use-cases.
Strengthen our collaborative and inclusive environment.
You will also interact directly with DeepMind researchers through partnerships and collaborations geared towards exploring problems and building solutions.
About You
Essential skills:
A degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics or equivalent experience.
Solid understanding of algorithms and system design.
The ability to discuss technical ideas effectively with colleagues, e.g. through whiteboard, design docs, presentations, etc.
Strong teamwork and collaboration.
